Pelican Strike 120X Angler Kayak Thoughts?

Featured Replies

Pelican boats are pretty well know. I think most of their boats are long and slim but that one looks pretty good. Are you just looking for that price range or realky like that model? I am a fan of the sit in more but every kayaker has different needs and each kayak is different.

I have an older model that is the same boat, different name. Some people will tell you they are terrible, i have to disagree. i still have mine, and i still use it on ocassion. Not the most stable boat on the market but sure isn't the worst either, also it is a fast boat and very easy to paddle.here is a good tip for you, call an academy sports if you have one close, ask them if they have a pelican icon 120x angler. its the boat i have and as recently as last week my local academy had a couple left, and it was discounted to 199 bucks. crazy deal.

I would buy the pelican icon for $199 today but my store has if for $299. That's also their online price right now. Are you for sure they had em for $199...cause I might be able to get them to price match their own location. Thanks for any help u can offer.

Yea im positive they did last week, i seen them in the store. I just checked my local ad and it has changed so the price may have went back up.  Even if that is the price now i would buy it over the Strike and save some money because the icon was 429 last year and the stores prob won't be getting any more of them in, they have already took it off the website.put that extra money towards a good paddle or some accesories.

First, welcome to the forums!

Second, it's a fine starter yak. I have a Pelican angler yak, but I did upgrade -- based on my needs, wants, available funds -- to a Native Ultimate 12.

You may use your yak for years without needing to upgrade.

Thanks for checking the ad and all. I went to Academy today to see what they could do, unfortunately they said they may have a sale but never really know. The manager offered me a price adjustment for 30 days if they did have a sale instead of their standard 2 weeks...a that's something. ..but not enough to get me to pay full price. Luckily an offer I made on a pelican castaway 116 from Craigslist responded and I got one in great shape with paddle for $200. I am super stoked!

It is an older model that has the rod holders at an angle to the side, vs the new model has holes straight down. I prefer the angled style due to any low hanging branches. Also the new model has a white bottom, but mine is all olive green...which I prefer. So all in all it was a good day. Now I just need some warmer weather.
