Miami Airport Lakes

Featured Replies

Went today to the airport lakes from about 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The morning was pretty slow. Didn't have any bites till I hooked on to a big one, I think about 5 lbs, but she got away. Then I saw a huge fish, not sure if it was a tarpon or just a very large bass. Couldn't get it to bite. Was using a senko with a weight then I switched to weightless and got more nibbles than bites. Finally I hooked into one at about 11. We headed for the canals for peacock. Saw three large pea's, they were nibbling not biting. Tried a live shiner and they would rip them off the hooks without touching the hooks, their getting smarter! We decided to go back into the lakes and stopped at an area with lots of cover. Within 2 minutes we got a double hookup. About 10 minutes later we got another largemouth then headed home. Slow day but was fun to be out. Wish I coulda reeled in the big one, woulda been a great day for me :)

I have fished those lakes a few times, and used to row with the Miami Rowing Club in the early 70's. .  Anything is possible in those lakes they have landlocked snook,  tarpon, manatees, as well as all kinds of exotics.  Everything and anything is possible in those lakes.
