Humminbird 1198 & 998 - One Tranducer?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I just purchased a few units that I am going to have installed on my boat, but can't figure out the tranducer situation. Either I use one for both units (installed in the rear), or I have to buy another tranducer for each to have their own.

The problem I am having is that I love to follow my graph and drop baits right on the fish. If my bow 998 unit is reading from the back, won't I be off 20ft?

Can I even run two tranducers without intereference?

Any help is much appreciated.

#1 issue. Any two units operating at same time on the same freqency/s will cross-talk if their sonar pulses overlap.

It makes no difference if they are the same brand or not.

The units come with the same HDSI transducer.

In any case you should attach the console unit's SI transducer on the transom and the bow unit's transducer on the bottom of the trolling motor.

If you connect the two units with Ethernet, you can share a single transducer while fishing so your partner can see what you are seeing at the bow.You choose which transducer in the Network menu.

Otherwise turn off the unit you are not using or just turn off the sonar part.

That is what I thought. Thank you Wayne for the confirmation.

One other question I have is if I have a high speed tranducer already installed in my boat, but it's for lowrance units, will that work with my birds? Or do i need to buy a new one?

No, the company's transducers are not universal.

You will need the XP 9 20 for shoot-thru and the AS SIDB Y cable to connect the transom SI transducer and shoot-thru to the display.

Awesome! Thank you very much Wayne. I have ordered those two parts and will be attempting to install myself. Wish me luck!
