Lews Speed Spool

Featured Replies

Just picked up a lews speed spool and paired it up with a 6'6" MH lightning rod shock and seaguar 15lb floro , not sure what i'm going to use it for, i'm thinking about making it my t-rig rod. its my first lews reel and i am very impressed with the quality for the price i paid,i am also impressed with the rod shock, it is more than i was expecting for the money. what else would you guys throw on this set up?

Sounds like a good spinnerbait rod with those specs/line

I would say jerkbaits, swimming jigs, and if you switched the line to mono or braid, topwater. You can do a lot with a 6'6" MH rod.

Really dude, that set up can be use for just about every thing under 1oz weather its a vertical bottom technique or a horizontal technique.

We all get caught up in technique specific stuff but its really not necessary. There's a lot you can do with that rod.

T rigs, jigs, spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, small hollow body swimmers, flukes, stick baits, buzz toads.

I like that length for skipping and close quarter stuff.

I think everybody should have a few 6'6" -7'MH rods, they really are utility rods that just do it all.

Did you get the new 2014 model speed spool that has the bent handle? I've been wanting that one!

What did you pat for it?

thanks guys, im gonna try it out with some diffrent baits this week hopefully, it is the new pro speed spool.

It can be used for just about anything. I had the exact same rod paired up with a PQ (almost the exact same reel) a couple years back and it was a good setup. To be honest, I didn't like it much for jigs but other than that it was great. I felt the tip was a little too soft to fish jigs the way I like - I did however fish the smaller Strike King Bitsy Bug jig with it.

I tried a 1/2 oz football jig on it the other day and it was TERRIBLE, tip is way to soft for the jigs,it felt like casting a 40lb brick on an UL rod to me. but i did like it for spinnerbaits, some cranks, and light t-rigs.

Agreed, it was awful.
