The "practice Canal" Delivers!

Featured Replies

I fish the canal behind my house all the time, mainly just the 75' right behind the house. I call it the practice canal because I taught myself how to cast a fly rod and a baitcaster, how to fish flukes, senkos and lots of other firsts there. I have caught a bunch of little and even tiny fish there. I have learned where to look based on conditions and lots of other stuff.

Tonight, I got home and figured I'd try a few baitcaster casts into the wind, something I have struggled with the last few weeks. first cast, dropped a senko at the edge of some grass where I got bites the other day. Tap Tap thud. Thought it was a dink caught up in some canal slop again until it hauled ass into the middle of the canal.

Biggest bass I have caught back there.  It puts the "if you're catching a bunch of little ones, there aren't any big ones" theory out of my head for a bit.

Another one from last weekend. Switching to frogs, going to see what I can learn. Got a couple of strikes today and had one on for a few seconds but I guess I messed up the hook set cause he spit it out after a short fight.
