Fish Finder Kicks Out

Featured Replies

My lowrance fish finder kick out every 1 to 5 minutes...whether on the water or on land.

I'm assuming it's not wired right, because it won't kick out on my buddies boat.

how do I troubleshoot the problem

If the same unit works fine on your friends boat, you have a bad connection on the power line somewhere.First to be  safe, disconnect your battery. The battery is fully charged and good right? Follow the power lead from the unit back to the power source and redo each connection. If that doesn't fix it, do the same thing for the ground wire. Also make sure your fuse holder is not damaged. I don't know what kind of set up you have, is there a fuse panel or circuit breaker panel? If it STILL does not work, reconnect the power lead to another spot on the fuse panel that you know works.

Eliminate the boat wiring harness altogether and extend the unit power cord directly to the battery.

Use a spade type fuse/holder at the battery. Use 16 guage or larger wire.

thank you,

I'll try to find a bad connection in the line, but I was wondering that since it kicks out even when there is no jostling of the wires that the fish finder was getting to much voltage from some other source and kicking out, and I guess that's a possiblity if my ground wire isn't connected correctly.

My battery is fine. and I believe i have in-line fuses.

could something else be wired into my lowrance fishfinder or do they usually run straight to the battery with no other connections.

as you can tell, i'm not to smart when it comes to electrical wiring

Eliminate all the guesses and connect as I suggested.
