About a week or so I caught the end part of Bass Pro's and I think KVD was fishing the SK SQ. bill crankbait in weeds or should I say wright above the weeds in shallow water? Did anyone see this show? I am not a crankbait kind of a guy but I want to be more well rounded in baits and the crankbait is my big weakness. But I thought that a Sq.bill CB was made to hit and bounce off of cover. If KVD was doing this it could be a big part of my bassin this year. I would throw a swimming jig but this could be cool. Any info would be great!

Yes, I saw the show.  Squarebills in general are pretty good to throw up in shallow cover, you will be surprised what you can bring this bait through.  When I am in shallow water around cover, where most would throw a SB I would almost always rather throw a squarebill.  SB's obviously work great for that too but the squarebill is just my preference.

I was a lot like you last season wanting to start throwing cranks more to open up my arsenal. I got some SK squarebills and now I have a box full. They are great. When you rip em through weeds hold on tight because that big bass will smash it.

eyedabassman the idea that square bills should be fished only around wood cover is a myth in my opinion. I've been very successful the last few years throwing the Lucky Craft RC baits  by ripping them off of shallow grass. If the grass is too close to the surface I might change to a Mann's Baby 1 Minus or a wake crank, that said the RC is my all time favorite shallow crank. I did get a chance to fish the Strike King Square bill a little last fall and it looks like it could be another good option in that lure category.

Bang it into anything you can, if you haven't done this often you will be surprised how many fish you catch when it deflects of the wood or gets ripped out of the grass.

You can fish it in open water and will catch a few but not as many as you would crashing it into wood, rock, or ripping it out of any type of grass.

I like to crash them into bridge structure.

OK guys I think I will have to pick some Sq. bill cranks up. I think I will buy some SK because the RC are alittle $$$$. Oh, by the way this crank stuff is new to me! When I get them should I get them with or without rattles?

If you're fishing clear and/or pressured water, you may want to go with the silent while stained/muddy and/or little pressure you'll probably want some noise. When in doubt, get both!
