14' Jon Boat,flat Bottom Advice

Featured Replies

I'm most likely going to buy this Jon boat (used) and Im seeking some pointers/advice. First, price: We settled on 1200 bucks..includes trailer, small outboard, and trolling motor ...also a humminbird portable fishfinder, two clamp-on seats, oars and oar locks. Seems like a decent deal...what do you think? Also how do you think she'll handle on a lake? Not just the shallows, but the water. I know its flat bottom gets you into the sweet spots..just wondering here. Anything I should look for as far as the boat itself? Any advice most helpful..thanks

First, welcome to the forums.  Second, how wide is the bottom?  Third, what condition is the outboard in, as well as the trolling motor? Also, a price without a picture is worthless to help determine value.

I learned to fish out of a 10 foot v bottom sear boat. the only motor I had on it was a 30lb trust transom trailing motor. no trailer, just hauled it around in my pickup. it wasn't the most comfortable but it was extremely cheap. I took it to shallow rivers with a ton of current to big water where 50 foot yachts were cruising around. it handled well and I caught tons upon tons of fish outa that boat. seems like a great buy and a really great way to get into the sport of bass fishing
