Bps Crankin' Stick Advice

Featured Replies

I am trying to decide between the 7' and the 7'6. I will be using it for long bombing lipless cranks for the most part, but also some squarebills (SK 1.5). Lipless cranks will weigh 1/2 oz or less and squarebills will all be about 1/2 oz too.

Anyone have these rods?

Thanks

I have 5 Crankin' Sticks - including the 7'm and the 7'6"m.  I got the 7'6" specifically as a long-range lipless crank rod. For 1/2oz baits, I just don't see much advantage to the 7'6" over the 7". I was actually disappointed in the 7'6" rod for quite a while...then I tied on a 3/4oz lipless (a bit over the weight rating for the rod) and then the rod started to earn it's keep...

Anyway, of those two lengths, I'd go with the 7'm as the all-around rod.

Thank you. That is exactly what I was looking for. 7'M it is.

I prefer a 7'6 medium haven't used a 7ft but ive caught plenty of good fish on it.

Just got the 7'6" MH xfast it should be plenty for deep cranks....I am not sure the advantage over the 7' but it sure is a nice feeling rod. Still ice on the water so I gotta wait to wet the line.

I didn't know that there was a telescoping handle option in the Crankin' Stick line.  My 7'6" has a fixed grip...

I have three, a 7' Medium for smaller and medium cranks and light topwaters, a 7' MH for spinnerbaits, heavier topwaters and heavier squarebills, and a 7'11" MH for deep cranks. Great rods all around.

Roughly how much longer is the handle of the 7'6 vs the 7? The handle length of the 7'6 is not pictured on bps.

Goose, would you say the 7'6 medium could easily handle a 1/2 rat-l-trap? What weight lure would you say overpowers the the 7'6 medium?

Thanks for all the help so far BTW. It is much appreciated!

The handle on the 7'6" is 1.5 inches longer than the 7' (roughly 10.5 inches behind the reel seat compared to about 9" for the 7' rod).

The 7'6" easily handles 1/2 or 5/8oz lipless cranks.  I've tossed 3/4oz on it and it handles those as well (a bit above the weight rating for the rod). Haven't tried anything above 3/4 on it as I have other rods for that.

I actually don't use the 7'6" rod that much - mostly for 3/4oz lipless.  I use the 7'6" MH Crankin' Stick for the heavier baits, the 7' Crankin' Stick for the 3/8 to 5/8oz range and go to a ML Crankin' Stick for the 1/4oz range.

Alright thanks. I think I am going to get the 7'6 medium for the extra distance with heavier baits. I'm just waiting for BPS to have them on sale.
