I Need Advice Miami/hometead Area

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I am from the foothills of NC. Planning a trip to the Keys at the end of May I am flying in to Ft. Lauderdale on the 24th and have a fishing trip out of KW on the 27th. No firm descisions on where to stay or what to see in between.

I would like to catch a Peacok while I am in the  area. I usually get up early enough to get a couple of hours of fishing while the missus sleeps in.  I am not wanting directions to anyones honeyhole, but I would like some ideas of  places to fish without winding up somewhere that I shouldn't be. As well as any adivce of what to throw.

I am bring 2 med action 4 pcs rods 1 spinning, 1 casting and a small bag with some shallow cranks, Xraps, spinner/chatter baits, and a couple of frogs.

Any and all advice is appreciated, (fishing or tourist) and if someone would like to fish with me that would be even better.

Thanks

Darrell

I'm no expert but maybe I can lead you on your way. I don't know if you're gonna spend time in Miami or just the Keys but the Miami canals are a good bet. Peacocks usually only bite during daylight and like aggressive style hunting. Rattle traps work good as well as live shiners.

Check this link for Miami and nearby canals.

Good luck!!!

There are canals everywhere between Homestead and Ft. Lauderdale. Depending on where you are staying. The AeroJet canal just south of Homestead on US 1 has a great bank on the north west side that will give you a full day of fishing.

Many Thanks to Larry C for putting me in the location to catch my first Peacock, and for coming out with fiends to fish with me while I was down.
