Pond Fishing

Featured Replies

So today I decided to fish in a local pond for the first time and let me tel ya, I don't know how some of you guys do it. There were a bunch of spawning bass along the shorelines but they were babys BUT with that being said, no matter if I threw top water or a jig it'd come back covered in underwater moss and reeds that were a centimeter below the surface.

I could one bite when I threw a senko into some cover but aside from that, I was reeling in pond scum consistently. I *** you guys because it's just not my cup of tea

I would be all topwater in a pond like that.  Loads of fun!!!

A lot of times spawning bass will not bite.  They are too busy doing their thing I guess.  True the males will try to protect the beds but sometimes the fish simply don't bite during spawn.

Give them a couple weeks after they spawn and then go froggin! Use a pad crasher junior since they are small

I fish golf course ponds 90% of the time and had the same problem when I first started. Then I discovered tungsten weights and rigging a Texas rig with a straight shank hook rather than an EWG or regular wide gap. It'll help the bait come through that slop a bit easier. Also, silent carolina rigs (no beads, just weight) with a styrofoam stuffed tube rigged Texas style work well. Use a cylindrical weight and stuff some styrofoam into the tube, to make it float over that junk. If you aren't using a stuffed tube, use a floating bait and spray on your own scent. At least that's what I do, and it works well for me.
