Best Bass Fishing In Utah?

Featured Replies

Going to b in Utah this summer just wondering where the best bass fishing is we will be in south west and north east mostly

South-west would be St. George area and there's 4 or 5 lakes near there. North-east would be Green river smallies, and Bear lake. I've fished the Green river, big small mouth in fast water. Your best bet is by river raft and fish ALL the holes and forget those dink slimey sides! I did a 3 day trip with a guide some 10 yrs. ago and still brag about it! BIG, I MEAN BIG SMALL MOUTH! Don't pass it by!

For southwest Utah, Sand Hollow State park is rated one of the top LMB waters in Utah. I actually just fished there for the first time a few days ago and managed to catch 3 in a couple of hours fishing off the dam. There is also Quail Creek about 10 miles or so from Sand Hollow. Both lakes are about 15 mins north of St. George.

Not sure how far up you mean by north east. But Pineview Reservoir, Mantua, and Hyrum are fairly close to each other and just a couple hours drive north east from Salt Lake City. Pineview has SMB, LMB, and tiger muskies. Flaming Gorge is on the border with Wyoming is a popular place. Never fished there myself though. I don't believe there are any bass in Bear Lake however.

Good Luck

Sadly the Utah Division Of Wildlife Resources and US Fish and Wildlife service are killing smallmouth by the thousands in the Green, because they blame them for declines in native suckers, chubs, and squawfish. It really hasn't worked though. The chubs and suckers are endangered because of Flaming Gorge Dam and NOT smallmouth bass and other sportfish.

You have Pelican Lake near Vernal in NE Utah that has tons of largemouth to four pounds, and also Starvation Reservoir which is a very good smallmouth fishery with lots of walleye too. Powell is always good for smallmouth with great numbers and the odd 3  - 4 pounder, and some big largemouth. Quail Creek near St. George has some of the biggest Largemouth in the state, and nearby Sand Hollow is good for great numbers of bucketmouths to 5 pounds.

For me id say deer creek in heber utah.. haven't fished the other places mentioned here. I have caught tons of smallies there and the biggest bass I have ever landed was a 6lb largemouth. Good luck
