Custom lure color modifications

Featured Replies

How does one go about learning to customize one's lures? ???

Where do you get the right paints and tools to allow you to do a competent job of custom color modifications? Are there any book suggestions?

Try WWW.TACKLEUNDERGROUND.COM

Tackleunderground.com has a ton of information on painting and building lures also the lurebuilding section of stripersonline.com.

If you are just painting and not making baits then an air compressor and and airbrush will get you started. I would start with water based paints for a couple reasons, if you make a mistake the paint wipes off with a wet rag and your ready to go again and you do not need an exhaust fan like you will with a solvent based paint. PM me if you have any questions or need help. Here is an ice fishing decoy painted with acrylics and top coated with epoxy.

Nice Work! Ever think of making some like that for Christmas tree ornaments for hardcore fishermen?

Thanks for the offer I will PM you.

Do you actually use that to attact fish like duck decoys when hunting?? Never heard of such a thing.

Paparock, yes I have made some into Christmas ornaments and key rings. When your first starting you will make several without wanting to.

Will, these are used for spear fishing through the ice. They are on a short stick with the line attached to get to the bottom and they are swam in circles, sort of like a puppet. When a larger fish comes into range he is speared. Inside an ice shanty, looking through a hole, its just like watching a big screen tv. To be honest most of these will be in someone's den wall.
