Fenwick Hmx M Vs. Mh For Senko Fishing?

Featured Replies

Really hoping someone can point me in the right direction on a dedicated senko rod.....I will mostly be using it with 5" Senkos rigged both weightless and with a 1/16oz sinker. My question to you guys is regarding power in a spinning rod for this application...What do you guys recemmond for a spinning rod in this situation...the medium 7' Fenwick HMX or the medium Heavy 6'10'' Fenwick HMX?? If it helps I'll be using a Pflueger President size 30 spinning reel w/ 8lb FC line. Also, if you guys had any strong recommendations for spinning rods for this application under $100.

Thanks to all ahead of time!

Ok, I didn't see that rod at my local Gander Mountain but am willing to consider this rod...so you yourself prefer a medium xtra fast rod for wacky senko fishing?

Anybody else have any thoughts on using a m vs. mh rod for an overall senko spinning rod...any more recommendations??

The 7' medium HMX is a nice rod and will handle Senko fishing quite well, the only way I'd go to a MH would be if I was throwing in some nasty cover but then I'd use a casting rod. If you are throwing to moderate cover or less then the medium in that rod will be perfect.

Thank you for the response smalljaw67, the 7' medium HMX definitely felt better in my hand at the store compared to the Medium Heavy...the MH felt pretty stiff to feel sensitive bites...a majority of people seem to feel medium fast tip is the way to go for most senko applications on other forum boards so I will take the plunge and buy the medium HMX thanks again!

I'm certainly no expert on Senko's BUT... I have a good few Fenwick's. Personally I have been using a Fenwick HMX 6' 6" Medium Light Fast Spinning rod as well as my Fenwick HMG 6' 6" Medium Fast Spinning rod. How much cover i fish in is the deciding factor in going from ML up to M rod.

I'm going to let those two poles rest a bit though and pick up a St. Croix Eyecon in 6' 3" Medium Light EXtra Fast next weekend. I've been using Fenwick's for a long time but to be perfectly honest I am not a fan of the handle of the newer version HMX. And unfortunately Fenwick (and most others) are sold out of the HMG's. I find that to be rediculous actually but who am I? So since I can't spend my hard earned $$$ with Fenwick ... St. Croix will get my business. The handle on the Eyecon is just too perfect of a fit in my hand to NOT get one.

I'm still fond of the Fenwick products and I think you'll be very pleased that you got one. If / When your budget allows, in my opinion the HMG IS a nicer rod with a much more comfortable handle. That is though, just my personal opinion for me and how I hold the rod and reel in my hand. Best of luck on your purchase!
