Master_Hunter_1977 Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 I have been biulding poles now for 6 years and until recently I haven't put much thought into what components to use. Now I know thats a mistake. So I was hoping that with some help I could get on the right track with what components to use now. I have a 6'8' lamiglas blank 8-15 # line rating and 1/8-5/8 oz It is a moderate action too. So my question is what guides would you chose and why. I thank all of you for your help Scott Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Master_Hunter_1977, You have been building rods for 6 years. Are you building this rod for yourself or a customer? What guides have you used in the past? I use Fuji® exclusively. When I build for myself I have a supply of Fuji Hardloy® guides that I use on all of my rods. I don't fret to much on the higher end guides because most all of the rods sensitivity comes from the total design of the rod, and the Hardloy guides are very good guides (never had one fail). ;D Now if you are building for a customer, then I would purchase the guides they requested. There are tons of different guides from a ton of manufacturers, and trying to find "The Best" can run you ragged, and burn you out with information over kill. To sum it all up, it depends on your design, and component budget. Tight Wraps! Quote
Master_Hunter_1977 Posted January 12, 2006 Author Posted January 12, 2006 Thats where I am right now with info burn out. Everything you read make you want to think they are the king and tops. That is the way it is with everything though the manufactures want you to think that so you will buy there items. Thats why I put the post on here I thought maybe someone with some more experience than I do would have some devine insight ;D I personaly have used hardloy on almost every rod I have built too. I was just looking to see if there was a majic guide out there. ;D I am building this pole for me. I have build several poles I just am at the point were I want to start doing more than just puting quality wraps on the rod if you know what I mean. Thanks for your help I appreciate it. Any more info would be acepted too. Scott Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Scott, I'll tell right out that I would standardize the components that you use. I would use the Hardloy or Alconites from Fuji, I see no need to pay the extra bling dollars for SiC, or Titanium Oxide, etc. Take your time on the design (grips, seat, and the placement of all components) and you will find that, that is were your rod will excel from other rack rods.
