Odd Fishing Experience

Featured Replies

Last night I got out for an hr so I ran down, and started casting a ribbit frog along the patty's/ pond snot. Well this fish sticks it's head out of the water looks at it for a second, lunges and grabs it and heads on down deeper. Why did he stick his head up and look at it? I lost him BTW, kermits leg got in the way of the hook.

Haven't seen that before...but it obviously looked real enough if he took it down :)

You sure it was a fish and not a bullfrog? Bullfrogs will attack other frogs, and they scope out an area by peeking out above the water.

Sneaky Bass, he was investigating before he decided his plan of attack. Which I have never seen or heard of before, but I think you might have discovered the first ninja bass in history.

Yeah I've been using a frog and had a bullfrog pop up to investigate then try to eat it.

Yeah I really think it was a fish, I saw another do the same a little while later

I have never in my life seen a fish of any kind 'peek' out of the water. They tend to wait below and watch for their chance to get a meal.

I'm thinking you were seeing some frogs trying to get dinner.

It really looked like fish mouth come up the second time and grab a twig on the water

Could it have been a carp? It was on the little cal river

Not a fish. Gravity wouldn't allow one to stick its head out to look at something

My guess is that it was a bowfin (dogfish). Those suckers can live out of water for like 4 hours. I've seen them surface to gulp air at times. I've even seen one eat a mouse from shore.

It could very well have been one of these although I've never seen one "poke its head out" but have seen then roll on the surface. I have caught more bowfin with top water frogs than any other lure

"Are you on druuugs"..
