slappy
I am new to taclemaking and was interested in making my own crankbaits either a diver or suspending. I was wondering what the advantages are in making your own besides, the fun and sense of accomplishment when finished....thanx for the feed back guys! Guest whittler
Slappy there are several reasons for making your own crankbaits in addition to the reasons you have already mentioned. 1 You can make a bait that will run at the depth you want. 2 You can make it have a wide wobble to a very tight wiggle. 3 You have control over the quality of the components used. 4 You have control over the exact color you want. 5 If you making them from wood there is also your choice of woods. A suspending bait, made from wood, although easy its to make one, it is very difficult to mass produce. It takes a lot of tank testing with each bait to get the weighting correct. Guest whittler
CJBasswhacker, thanks for the compliment on my bait. Not many tools required to make a few cranks for yourself. A coping saw, knife, drill and sandpaper will get you started. I have a tutorial on making cranks in articles on a simple flat-side crank. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/crankbait_making.html
