7' 6" Mh Veracity Too Much?

Featured Replies

I can get these rods for $100. I have several 7' MH veritas rods and I love them but they don't seem to have enough backbone for 3/8oz jigs and bigger. I've never had any quality issues with abu rods so I'm not trying to start another thread in that. I have buddies with vendettas and veritas rods and they love them too. I was just wondering if a 7' 6" MH veracity is going to be too stout to cast a 1/4oz t-rig rage craw. Or a Carolina rig. I would think that it would be fine for 1/2oz jigs and frogs with the cover I fish. I just want a good rod with enough backbone that I have a little extra backbone left on the back burner if needed. However I do not want to sacrifice sensitivity. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Anyone?

The one thing i think of when i fish my veritas is Stout. 3/8oz is minimum I like to throw on that rod. I throw lures up to 1oz on it no problem. I think you are just fine with that rod.

Is your veritas 7' 6" MH?

7' mh fast action

I have 3 of that exact rod. I love the rods but want more backbone. I'm just wondering if I'd be better with a 7' 3" or a 7' 6". Veracity is 36 ton graphite as well. Veritas is only 30 ton

If you want more why not go with a heavy fast action veritas?

Well honestly I can get a veracity for $100 and I'm scared of getting a lemon with the veritas like so many other people I've heard of. Never had a problem personally but now I'm gun shy

I don't know what to tell you then

GO HEAVY ON A JIG ROD!!!!  I use a 7'6" heavy for my jigs, but then again I "stroke" a jig all summer long when I'm using a jig...

QC issues with the Veritas are almost isolated exclusively to the micro guide version.

I have that rod (the 7'MHF) and it is a broomstick! 3/8 is minimum for that rod. Going to sound stupid, but are you sure those jigs are 3/8? A 3/8 hack attack jig with creature trailer barely loads the tip on mine. I bought it to use 1/4 and 3/8 t-rigs but it is way too stout. I even grabbed the line and tied it to a fence post, mine only bends about 1/3 of the way down and then its solid backbone (I could not get it to bend at all). You might want to go to the nearest sporting goods store and make sure your veritas are the same as the ones in current production.

As for the veritas breaking.. I wouldn't worry about it with the newest models. I stepped on a 6'6MF and cracked the clear coat just above the reel seat (has cracks about 3" long running the length of the blank). I thought for sure it was done so I stopped fishing with it and when I got home I did the fence post trick and bent that thing way past anything a fish could give me and nothing happened. I had that thing past doubled over, just to make sure it wasn't going to let me down on a big fish.

All of mine are the micro guide series

That's funny. I throw 1/4 oz t-rigs and weightless senkos on mine all the time. But when I reel down the slack and set the hook on a jig or Carolina rig I feel waaaaay too much give

I also just bought three of them right at Christmas so they should be current

That sounds about like my Medium action veritas. Sounds absolutely nothing like my 7'MHF. There is no way you are casting a weightless anything with mine unless you lob cast it, because that tip is not flexing!

I tested it this afternoon, a bare 3/8 hack attack jig does not bend the tip. With a creature trailer (up to around 1/2oz total weight) it loads it a little bit.

I have a 7' MHF micro guide veritas and one of them throws nothing but senkos. I have it paired with a revo premier. Fish it almost daily this way

I use a 7' mh Veritas and I know it can cast a weightless senko/stick worm no problem. My go to jig size is 3/8 oz and that thing casts like a bullet.

I have a 7'6" MHF Villain.  Distance with a 3/8 oz. spinnerbait is abysmal.  Even with a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait distance is nothing to brag about.  Low end rating is 3/8 oz.

That's why I'm worried that maybe I need to go with the 7' 3 MHF for my origional post
