Just wondering if anyone has tried making poppers or walk the dog baits with balsa wood.  If you have, what did you use to paint it?  I don't wanna use a paint that will always have an odor but I don't want something that is weak and chips off too easily.  Any suggestions?

ive made some topwater lures that pop and walk the dog at the same time, but it was made outta cypress, and the paint job is the worst paint job u ever seen, it looks like a five year old tryed to finger paint the lure. but i have caught alot of fish on them , including bass, redfish , and speckle trout
