A couple weeks ago I finally purchased a brand new jon boat and a trolling motor for it and Im just gonna say im a better angler than I thought. From the banks I was having a 0-1 maybe 2 fish a day. Now from my boat im having much more luck to put it simply, and Ive finally broken the 3 pound mark. I always bought cheap rods b/c hiking all through creation on shore I would always **** an eylet and beat em up. Now Im considering spending on 2 rods. Id like to do 1 MH 6ft6 with power pro 20lb for really weedy areas which my favorite lake is avg. depth of 8ft and nothing but lillys grass and muck. And another running 17fluoro for more open waters and some finesse stuff when theyre being picky. I only run spinning reels right now. Anyone have any other suggestions or anything thanks for the help in advance guys.

He said it right. Now, you are going to want electronics, gas motor, better batteries, and the list goes on........... All that being said though, nothing improved my enjoyment of fishing more than my first boat. It opened up more avenues of catching fish than I ever knew existed. That first boat was in 1970. Since then I have worn out several bass boats with big motors. Now I'm retired and I am back to a 14 ft Aluminum boat and have more fun with it than I did with expensive bass boats. 

Fishing from bank is ok.when your on a boat your casting to shallows and retrieving to deep water it's more natural.when I fished banks I would always cast parrallel to shore not straight out unless i knew there was cover.just be careful owning a boat purchase things due to need not want .Rods and reels are same buy for what your throwing not what looks pretty or is selling because it's new.My rods are all 20+ years old if you maintain them/fix them no problems

I just got a fishing kayak and finally got off the shore. Like you said my success rate has gone up a lot. I can finally catch deep water bass and bass suspending and bass in spots I could never get to before. It's awesome!

Now instead of trying to cast as far out as possible, you're gonna try to cast as close to the shore as possible!
