Getting The Most Out Of 2 Baitcast Combos

Featured Replies

I have a somewhat specific question, but hopefully I could get some insight from those much more knowledgeable and experienced that I.  Here's the situation:

I have 2 baitcasting rods and 2 baitcasting reels

Combo 1

6'6" MH 2pc fast action

6.3:1 currently spooled with 17# mono (stren)

Combo 2

6'6" MH 1pc xfast action

7.0:1 currently spooled with 15# copolymer (p-line fluoroclear)

As of right now, I have been using combo 1 for jigs and combo 2 for worms.  I feel like I could get more versatility out of these with different line and focus each on a different application.  I already have a spinning outfit which I use for cranking and spinnerbaits, but wouldn't be opposed to using one of these for spinnerbaits as well. Basically, I would like to ask that if you had only these 2 baitcast setups, what would you do to get the most versatility out of each?

If I forgot any details that will help with any advice, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.

I'd throw topwaters, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, chatters, and other moving baits on combo 1. Fast action + mono should give you enough forgiveness. I'd probably throw worms and drag jigs on combo 2. I've been dragging jigs on 15 lb. copoly myself and it's worked well.

Braided line is an option but it's not necessary unless you want to frog pads or punch grass.
