can i fix a Pole ?at the

Featured Replies

Hey all you tackle freaks!! ha-ha. i have a 2 piece pole that while i was fishing broke at the connection on the top piece.

it really shattered, and thank god for the line i reeled it back in with my lure.

can i fix this and still have a decent pole? i really like this pole, and hate to throw it away. Please any thoughts would be helpful.

if you can tell me what pieces part to get glue...etc to fix if possible.

Hi Mo_Tick,

I am not an expert but from the sound of "it really shattered" I would think no it can not be fixed :'(.  I have done a couple of tip tops in the past that were an inch or 2 shorter to get by for a while and even then they are not the same pole any more.  Time to let the tackle monkey loose  :) and shop for a new pole ;D

Have fun with that! ;D

I agree with that post!  You can cut it down and put a tip on the end making the rod shorter and less flexy. Doit and use it for trolling. Don't throw it away. Then go buy a rod  like the last post siad. They make good trolling rods or sell it in a yard sale after you shorted it. It sells.

OK, i think i need to clarify something. its not the Tip that broke, its the end that slides onto the bottm piece with the reel. it broke or shattered on one side, after i let loose with a spinner bait.

Ok! then I guess post two was right ! just trash it. Your not going to find a repair kit that offers flex . Do you want the site for rod building? I thinks its www.mudhole.com they got every possibilities for repair or building.    Mark.

Mo_Tick,

Basically you broke the Ferrule.

You can repair a Ferrule break but it take's getting just the right size blank section to use as an insert. It would have to be fiberglass (allow flex with short section repairs) and have the correct OD to match the ID of the front section of your rod, then it would have to have the correct OD on the other end to fit the butt sections ID.

But even if you did have the proper materials to do the job, you still have to get the broken section out of the butt section of the Ferrule. Plus this would not be a job for an amateur rod builder.

You could check out your local yellow pages for a tackle shop that does rod repair and query them as to whether they can do the job and how much it would cost.

Hope this helps some..... :)
