Gycb Spook (Review)

Featured Replies

So I picked one up a few weeks ago at DSG and finally got around to throwing it today.

Prefrontal conditions and slightly overcast so I started throwing a pad crasher. Caught tons of fish on it but only had a couple actually blow up on it. They were mostly just sucking it down and in turn I think I missed quite a few cause of it and it doesn't help I have not really thrown a frog this year.

I switched to the GYCB Spook and every fish just hammered it. I had more then a couple actually knock it up out of the water a foot or two in the air.

Casting this things is fairly heavy and casts farther then you really want to work a spook if you know what I mean.

Rattles it has multiple in it and it sounds like there is 1 big one and 2 or 3 smaller ones but it is fairly quiet. The rattles don't have much room to move back and forth and it makes it somewhat subtle. On the other hand my favorite a 1 knocker I can hear all the way across the lake as I walk it back to me.

Hooks are plenty sharp and I am not certain but assume they are Gamakatsu. I know some people dislike them but I have no issue with them. They are sharp enough to stick me in the hand more then once today and draw a little blood.

Finish is top notch and there really is not much more I could ask for really. It is easily on par with many of the other finishes that are on much more expensive lures.

Walking it does this like a champ. Very easy to walk at any speed and has a glide that is about the same as a spook. It also walks perfectly even with your line being caught up underneath vegetation.

Price I think I got it for about $6 and for what you get out of it including the amazing finish I think it is pretty hard to beat.

This is definitely a lure worth looking I should of fished it sooner and plan to use it quite a bit more in the future.

I don't really know what else you can really prove on except maybe a wider glide or a silent or louder 1 knocker version. Also it would be nice if company's made a top hook version of lures like this.

I guess this sort of turned into a review somewhat unexpectedly but for what it costs like $6 and the sheer quality of this bait this is not one to sleep on and worth giving it a shot.
