I was out at a local lake this morning, when I noticed a school of small fish swimming around. Upon closer look, they were very small LMB (about the size of my pinky finger).  And along with them, were miniature SMB. Is it normal for them to school together early on?  I had never seen this type of thing before, so I figured i'd ask. 

 

On a side note, they were being corralled by 3 larger (still only about the length of my hand) LMB who were apparently trying to feed on them.  It was very cool to watch play out right in front of us.

A couple weeks ago, i went perch fishing, and there were some rock bass feeding on a school of micro sized perch and bass. Kinda cool to see.

LMB actually school together much more than we think.  We view them as solo hunters who hide in cover, but there are plenty of them that prefer to school together in open waters as well.

I caught several largemouth in the same school that I was catching smallmouth during the spring pre-spawn.
