do you guys use a color preserver on your thread? is it necessary? and if so what kind? i have a pretty good idea on what else i will need...but if you have any less obvious things that i might forget feel free to mention them since i am a first timer.

If you use modern threads & finish it is unlikely you will need color preserver. It will probably cause you more problems than it might solve. Flex Coat products are high quality and easy to work with. Follow their instructions to the letter and you will have good results. Have fun fishing that new rod! JMHO

aggiebassin,

I don't use CP much anymore. I like the translucent look of my wraps when finished without CP. I use the Gudebrod® standard and NCP (no color preserver) threads. The difference between the two are the standard without CP will go translucent (almost disappear), with the CP added before the finish if done properly will give the threads the same color as when viewed on the spool. The CP I used is the Flexcoat Color Preserver (that's when I used it), Gudebrod® has a good one it is called 811. The NCP when finished looks like it is painted.

It really is a matter of personal preference....

Make sure you have plenty of very sharp razor blades, denatured alcohol, and paper towels. Mixing cups, sticks, and disposable brushes.

But I think the most important would be a roomy, well lit, clean area to do your work, Oh also make sure you are uninterrupted.

Tight Wraps!!!!   :)
