Making Jointed Cranks...

Featured Replies

Alright, so I know when tou make a crankbait you typically weight it underneath by the front hooks. I was just wondering on jointed cranks if you need to weight both sections or just the front..

My guess was it would just be the front but I just wanted to confirm.. thanks!

im not a pro or anything, but i put weight on all section on jointed lures. i am working on two lointed lures now and will put weight on all the sections. i dont know if you could only weight it on the front, but i havent. maybe someone else who is more experienced could answer your question more clearly.

You really don't need any weight in the back of a jointed lure.  Put your weight in front of the belly hook to ballast the bait.  The less weight you have in the tail the more wiggle you will get.  Just   my opinion.

MJ, the beauty of making your own is you can try all sorts of different things to get the action you want. In the smaller 2 peice baits that I make they are not weighted but in the large Musky baits some are. Experiment with all kinds of weighting untill you get the action you want, just make sure you record all your changes so you can duplicate which styles you like.
