what to do on a broken guide

Featured Replies

if you have a guide that the ceramic ring has been broken out and needs replacing, what is the best way to remove the wrapping finish from the old guide wraps?  shave it off w/ a razor blade/exacto, or sand it off? or something else?

aggiebassin,

Take a hair dryer, heat the guide wrap (not to hot). Then take a razor blade and shave across the top of the guide foot. Next peel the guide off, and re-heat the wrap. This will soften the remaining wrap and it should just peel off. Next make sure that you use either an emory board (white side) or a 3-M ultra soft sanding pad, and clean up the remaining finish. Wipe with denatured alcohol. Repeat if necessary until you don't feel any finish, then tack or tape on the new guide, wrap, and finish...

Good luck with your project.
