Blitzing bait tackle system

This is from a post in "other species".  I thought you tacklemaking guru's would appreciatemy fine eye for detail. lol

Blues on top are by far my favorite specie and method.

Do I use a fly rod?  I'm pretty sure Blitzing Blues and stripers are what they were invented for, lol!!

OK,...If I get started on Bluefishing, I won't stop till tomorrow night and I have to fish tomorrow so I'm just going to post 1 thing.  Somthing I want to share with my BR crew.

This is a pic of the ultimate bluefish lure system.  We build these by the hundreds.  2 or 3 sessions in the garage and there are enough for the season, with 3 of us we can make about 100 in 2 hrs and a 6 pack.

You need

swivels

dowels

40 lb plastic coated wire

Hooks

crimps

40 lb sleeves

beads

Like mentioned above, these things will eat a spark plug if you stick a treble hook on it and close it in the gap.  Yup,..it works.  With this in mind, I got sick of spending good money on $5-10 lures and feeding them to the blues all day.  It's bad enough how many rods we break by undersizing the gear.

So,

After catching on a spark plug one day when a school started boiling while I was clamming,.I decided to see just how much they really don't care.  I built a dowel based, non painted lure and learned immediately that they are hitting somthing that is just skittering across the top.  They don't care about shape, size, color,  etc.

So instead of lures, we used kastmaster copies and ripped them across the top of the boil.  Worked great and when you lose one, it's $3.

Still too expensive.

Now get this,...here's the beauty.  For those of you who know blues, you know all about their choppers.  With this rig,

You have the fish at the side of the boat.

Rod tip is raise and you reach down to get fish.

With this lure, you keep tension on the rod and grab the wooden popper.

Slide popper up the leader till it reaches crimp and swivel at top of leader.

NOW  Lift the fish in the boat.

Hands are totally safe from teeth.  Make it one better and don't even boat the fish, just grab plug, bring up to swivel and lift and then get pliers and unhook,....start again.  Pretty nifty eh?

You can really have some fun thinking of fun things to write on the plugs.  You can imagine,.lol

"Atkins friendly".

"bite me if you're stupid"

"I'm a Baitfish"

Some more

You get the drift.

Another note for non bluefisherman.  Blues have teeth.  We use a steel leader with a lure on the end.  (leader-$1.50  lure-$5-$10)  This system incorporates a steel leader and a lure all in one for appx $.50/ea

I'm thinking as my stories unfold with the senko drama and now this that you guys are starting to understand that my screenname was no mistake.

:)

p.s.  they cast a country mile!
