Need Advice On Rod Reel Combo.

Featured Replies

I mostly like to throw plastics and spinners. my price point ~200-300

Rods that i'm looking at are the Fenwick HMX, *** *** Black, Powell Inferno

Reels that i'm looking at are the Lews bb1 and bb2z l, Revo S and SX, and or the *** ***

Anyone have experiences with these rods and reels? Thanks!

I have no experience with any of these but I would recommend St. Croix Mojo Bass rod, I have one 7' MH and its working out very nicely. I'm also going to pick up a *** Black fairly soon.

The *** is the winner in that group.

For reels I would consider adding the Curado I to your search.

I just got a 13 *** Monday & it's quickly becoming my favorite. If they offered their reels with more line capacity I would switch all mine over to them. So ya it's a good one.

*** Black is a good rod for the money, I use all shimano reels, so I can't recommend those you listed, because I simply have not used them

I use a 7'1" heavy fast ***.

*** Blacks are nice rods.  Was out with mine today and surprise of surprises, I actually caught a fish on it.  :teeth:   Handle is a bit thinner than I like.  I have become a fan of Fenwick rods although I don't have an HMX.  You might want to also consider the HMG.  I hear the new models are very nice for the money.  Mine are older models.  Although I have a Lews and a couple Revos I don't have any of the models you listed so I can't make any suggestions there.

I think you have some good choices in the price range you are looking at based on the reading I have done.  I'd like to try a ***, but that isn't an endorsement of that reel over the others.  It is simply a brand I haven't tried yet.

Lew's Tournament Pro which can be found for like $150. I have one and it is awesome. Out of your suggestions I would go with the *** Black. I think the 7'1" MH *** or the 7'3" would do you good

Customer service is also a selling point for me. I heard ***'s customer services is pretty good.
