Ultra Light Rods?

Featured Replies

Is it a good idea to use an ultralight rod for 20"+ wild stream trout? I want a new rod and am looking to go UL but I'm just worried about my rod snapping. Would an average $60ish ultra light hold up?

I've caught a lot of trout on the B n' M 7' SHSS UL spinning rod. Casts light line beautifully with either a 750 Sierra or 6920 Pflueger President. This rod will handle anything coming your way and cost around $50.00. Remember, fish don't break rods. Fishermen do.

I've caught many trout in the 20" range with a BPS MicroLite 6'6" ultra light rod (right in your price range), an Okuma Avenger 15a  and 4 lb. test line. It's an absolute blast!

It's a great panfish, white bass and crappie rig too.

The rod is less important in landing the fish than the quality of the line and your fish fighting skills. Most freshwater fish can be landed on UL equipment.

Check out last year's Daiwa procyon rods fleabay. I got 6' model with a size 25 president and couldn't be happier with it for the price.
