Lews Speed Spool

Featured Replies

Left my Lews speed spool out in the rain (along with all my other rods and reels) the other night and now I can't the thing to stop squeaking.  I put gear oil on the worm gear and took the little cover the exposes the internal gears and placed a drop in there as well and the thing still is squeaking and doesn't feel as smooth as it did.  My other baitcasters Pflueger President and BPS Pro Qualifier showed no ill effects so I am wondering if it was the rain or if there is something screwed up on the reel.  I have loved this reel so far, have only been using it for a couple of months, so I am hoping that it is something that just needs a little extra lube somewhere that I am missing. Any suggestions?

I believe you are supposed to put grease in the area that exposes the internal gears and not oil (I'm not 100% sure). That might be why it has not stopped squeaking.

It needs cleaned now. My wife dropped my pflueger president spinning reel overboard in a murky lake but I was able to retrieve it. It was gritty and not working very well. After a good cleaning it's as good as new. Grease on gears, oil on bearings, and LESS is more with both.

Grease gears oil bearings. I grease my worm gear as well (supposed to use a thick oil). I suggest hot sauce brand for both.

I left all of my lews out in the rain one night a couple weeks ago and they were all good as new the next morning.
