Which Of My Setups Would You Use?

Featured Replies

Basically I plan on owning three set ups. I do three types of presentations. Senko, tube baits/jigs, and hula poppers.

Currently I own:

A 6'8 Shimano Crucial medium xf

A 6' Ugly Stik medium

Plan on purchasing a 7' medium or medium heavy Veritas or possibly even another Shimano crucial.

I can get a Veritas for $40 or another Shimano Crucial for $80.

Which rod would you choose to buy?

Which rods would you use in my arsenal for each of the applications?

Thanks!

Ugly Stik for poppers, you don't need as much feel for them since you can see them. The Crucial Medium for Senkos since they're a lighter bait and the lighter rod can load up more. Then, since I love to use jigs when I have them, I would spend the extra money for another Crucial in MH for the jigs.

I'd add a 6'8" MH Crucial for the Tubes and Jigs, depending on the weights. I assume you're talking about the older black Crucials; the MH's in that line aren't terribly stout. If your tubes and jigs are on the heavier side, a MH Veritas, which is a more powerful rod, would be a good idea.

Pulled the trigger on another 7'2 MH fast Crucial. Hopefully I made the right decision in paying the extra $40.

My jigs vary from 1/8 - 1/2 ounce.

Yup, the older black crucials. 2 of them in my arsenal now.

Personally, I believe that the Crucial is a good step up from the Veritas. The 7'2" will probably need a heavier reel to balance well, but it should work nicely for your intended purposes. It's also possible to throw 5" Senkos on the MH Crucial and put the lighter tubes/jigs on the M. Do what feels best.
