Yamamoto Crawdad On A Jig ?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Have just started experimenting with jigs.

Purchased some of those smaller  "football" style ones, that supposedly stand upright, irrespective of how they landed.

Question:  what do you think of using a Yamamotor 3" or 4" Crawdad on a jig, rather than the normal "worms" ?

This would be fishing in a freshwater pond, with a lot of (not all that big) Largemouth and Smallmouth.

Perhaps 1 or 2 pound size, max.

Any hints on fishing techniques for small jigs like I'll be using would also be appreciated.

Main question, though, is using a Yamamoto Crawdad on a small jig ?

Thanks, as always,

Bob

I suppose it depends on how big the jigs are. I'm assuming you are talking about skirted jigs? Most all skirted jigs are fished with some type of craw trailer. Sometimes with a swimbait trailer depending on what the bass are eating and what color the jig is. All my jigs I rig with craw trailers. Usually either a berkly havoc pit boss in the 4" size and bite some off to make it fit the jig better, or some kind of strike king rage craw. I think these trailers are too big for the fish you are going for. Don't get me wrong, I catch small fish on decent size jigs (3/8th or 1/2 oz ) but you might be better off with something like a strike king bitsy bug jig as the small fish will most likely hit smaller jigs more often. Or maybe just use a ball

Head jig or stand up jig with a small plastic and no skirt to cut down on the size of the bait to get more bites. Main thing is to keep the profile. Bit smaller when going for the little guys. I would try and fish a small 4" worm for the smaller guys

Thats what I use during midday.. the bitsy bug with craw papi. Or a shaky head with a roboworm. The smaller jig heads are easier to fish in the water im on. The veggies are so big right now that the football jigs just get hung up too easy.
