New Rod And Reel

Featured Replies

So, Thought I would share my new purchase today. I went to BassPro to look around and end up buying a Bionic Plus Bait Casting Reel and a Bionic Blade Micro XPS 7'0 Med/Heavy fast action rod. Rod says its for worm/jig fishing on the handle all for $140.  On the way home I stopped at the local fishing hole to try it out. I was impressed by it. Cast was smooth, and long. I have to admit, this was the most I have ever spent on a rod/reel combo. I plan on buying up a new rod/reel combo each month from here on out until I have completed my collection.  If you guys have any recommendations I am all ears. keep in mind, I am on a budget lol. Thanks!

How much are you willing to spend? For around 200 you can pick up an *** Black and a Lew's Speed Spool. If you want to spend less the BPS PQ Carbonlite combo is a good one.

I tried one of the Bionic micro guide rods and it broke on a two pound bass.  Done with BPS rods.

If I am going to spend a $ 200 bill on a rod and reel, I am making sure the rod has a good warranty.  Fenwick has Lifetime on HMG and Elite series, both could fit your budget.  And they back it up.  I broke one, and Fenwick sent me a new one no questions asked within 2 weeks.   I also think that Fenwick has some of the sweetest actions you will find in the price range.  To me it's a no brainer.  As far as reels, shimano is #1  but i have had good luck with Pflueger.  I have half a dozen Pflueger reels, presidents, Trions, patriarch.  They are all good reels.  The Trions are a little on the heavy side, but even the trions at $30-40 have been pretty much flawless for years.

Interesting set ups.  are these things I can purchase at Bass Pro, Academy sports, or Gander mtn??  those are the 3 stores I have near me.. also Dicks Sporting goods.

I went with the BP Bionic blade rod cause it was like a duckett rod at a lower price. I like the narrow eyes seem to have smoother cast.  I could be wrong but thats what it feels like.

I broke six inches off the tip of an IMX rod. I still use G loomis rods. I broke about a foot off of a BPS tourney special. I stepped on it. Danged BPS rods, I'm done with them.
