I fish with a KVD Sexy Dawg a lot and in a lot of places that have weeds a foot or so under the surface it gets caught up. What happens is when it is casted it lands and sinks about a foot before popping back up. Many times it has weeds on it then causing it to not work properly. I thought, this would be  a perfect lure for weedless treble hooks.The KVD Sexy Dawg and Zara Spook and Popper type baits would be perfect candidates for weedless treble hooks. Also, a crankbait with weedless treble hooks wouldn't be a bad idea either. I know a lot of times fish bite when your ripping crankbaits through weeds, so it's not always the best. But it could be.

Why don't lure manufacturers use weedless treble hooks more often?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I know Mustad makes some weedless trebles, but it appears that most other companies do not. Why is that?

Also, if I'm fishing with a KVD Sexy Dawg  4.5" inch and KVD Splash Popper 3", which size replacement Mustad Weedless Treble Hooks should I use?

I think your second question answers your first. If the manufacturers had more weed less trebles to choose from you would probably see them being used more

I tried weedless on a x-rap. Wanted to rip it over the top of weeds and occasionally through the ones that grow higher. But the lip, line and eye would still snag. Haven't got anything on it yet. Also feel like the action is not as good now. Still keep it in the box though

Fish those baits with the weed guard on them for awhile and you'll see why there aren't a bunch of them on the market. They don't work great against snags, they are good for keeping floating grass off the trebles and because they add weight that can hurt action it isn't worth using them for most of us. as far as what hook sizes, I'd say the 3" Splash would take a size #4 and the dawg would be a #2.

They don't work well or you would see them used more - it's been tried many times over the years.
