Cork removal question

Featured Replies

  • Super User

I have an old Browning rod that needs a new handle. Its probably 15+ years old.I have removed most of the cork (man, that was a tough job) but i would like to get the excess glue off the blank.Any suggestions on that other than sandpaper?Maybe some type of chemical?

fivebasslimit,

I wouldn't use any chemicals except denatured alcohol. Best bet would be to heat the old epoxy with a hair dryer or heat gun of your choice (don't overheat the blank). Then scrape the old epoxy off. Once you get it cleaned up then use a super fine 3M sanding sponge #916NA in conjunction with the denatured, for the final cleanup.

Have fun....
