Kayak Question About Paddle Holder

Anyone have anything on a paddle keeper for the wilderness slide trax system?  looked for one pretty hard, but no luck so far.  Rather not drill any holes I don't absolutely need to.

Also, really to anyone fishing standing up, what is your method for keeping you paddle handy yet contained?  Really love to hear any suggestions you have!

Thanks!

I just saw on one yak a rocket launcher rod holder with a homemade Y insert in the top to hold the paddle. It was mounted at about foot level front to back on the yak and on the side rail. Paddle was craddled in the Y and then the other end was rested toward the rear of the yak.

thanks for that reply man, that's about where i seem to be now.... trying to rig one up myself.  Although, i did see a gun rack that was made for the slide trax system that looked like it would work nicely, but it was like $60 so a little steep for me....

What boat are you in?  In my commander when i stand up i just rest it on top of the gunwales and call it a day.....easy to get to and one less thing to add weight and potential spots to snag my fly line on when fishing.  I used to do the same thing on my Redfish and my coosa when i stood up too.  the coosa did have little notes built in to the boat though for the purpose

i'm in the wilderness ride 135.  my buddy's coosa has those little notches you speak of and those are sweet.  I just found this past weekend that i was constantly battling with keeping my paddle in place, yet still handy enough to reach if i needed to paddle on or make a course correction or anything.  i would just love to find something handy to rig up front on the slide trax, something that would grip the paddle, but be available to just bend down slightly to grab it....  maybe wishful thinking?  maybe the next yak attack item to hit the streets?

There's a video or blog with pix out there of a guy who has a paddle strap around his waist or something.

When he stands, his paddle hangs wherever he lets it hang - by that I mean either in front of him, to his side, out of the way of his fishing.

Not sure how it'd work, but was interesting.

Perhaps you could try Native's new cam-lock holders and see if they could be modded to fit your Ride.

i have seen people use the native paddle holder mounted to a belt

seems like a pain to me.  Personally if i am standing in my boat i am probably working an area more thoroughly so i usually am either wedged into some lilly pads or using my stake out pole or anchor.

Rig one of these to a belt. Great for standing and holding it at waist level to adjust the direction your yak is facing.

wow, i'm surprised with the belt suggestion.... that kind of seems like it would get in the way though or be one more thing to worry about fighting with when you have a fish hooked....

any of you guys know if the native trax are similar to wilderness trax systems in that they will take the same accessories?

No idea. We use the belts here when standing with a 9'0 8wt fly rod sight casting to reds in the marsh, usually with a bunch of fly line hanging in front. It really doesn't get in the way.

Only real suggestion I have, sorry.

don't be sorry man!  i appreciate the suggestion, i was just trying to picture it in my head and the only picture i have is me wrapping my line around my paddle around my waste which just was a funny mental picture i had playing out!

in terms of easy access to the paddle, i can't really think of a better solution than the belt....  i'm just still trying to get the hang of standing and fishing so i'm thinking that it may get in my way, but it really might not.

I seriously appreciate the input

So many typos in my last response! Forums on an iphone are just asking for trouble.

I believew that yak attack mighty mounts are universal to both native and wilderness. Maybe give them a try for options?

last nite I went to the fishing store..Scotty makes a fork insert for their rod holder base, the one that goes into a slot and then locks in. The width of the fork is maybe just big enough to work, but with a little heat it could be widened and would work for sure. So, if you already have the Scotty base somewhere it could be your answer.

I wrapped some grip tape around my paddle and I just sit it on the gunwales when I stand. That way it doesn't slide around too much.
