Question about epoxy and sealer???????

Featured Replies

On the epoxy devcon 2-ton 5 minute is what I understand do you guys get the syringe so it makes it easy to keep it even is there a diffrence and do you brush it on?  Also do you use sealer or will the primer be enough or both Sorry for all the Questions but you guys inspired to try and carve some lures and it is a blast but I got ahead of myself and noticed I didn't pre mark anything so it will be a crap shoot but I still wanna finish them even if they don't run true. Thanks again.

Stroz, Devcon 2ton and Devcon 5min. are two differnt epoxies. The 2ton has a longer cure time and will be clear, this is one of the epoxies I use for top-coat. The 5 min epoxy is good for attaching lips and hardware, but will yellow over time.

I use a sealer on bare wood before painting. If these are your first tries at crankbaits just seal, install hardware and try them, beleive me those first few its not needed too have a great paint job. As you will find out mark everything and keep it square and true, a bait that is not is almost impossible to make run.

I use minwax polyurathane to seal my baits, 3 dips with a lite sanding with 400 grit in between each.  You will get a smooth surface for the primer and paint.    As Whittler said Devcon 2ton and 5min are different, 2ton will give you about 8 min. before it starts to cure, 5min starts curing in 3 min.  2ton is for your topcoat and you will need to turn the bait to get a smooth even finish.

Whittler, 2ton will yellow but not because of uv rays.   Devcon has a low tolerance to heat if you lures are exposed to heat of about 120 degrees are higher it will cook that epoxy and turn the bait yellow.

Don't ever use Devcon to put golf clubs together, it won't hold.
