Marty question.....I see a screw eye at the top of the photo, is that for size comparison, i would think you would be wiring the hooks in the smaller balsa baits to prevent them from being clobbered and breaking.

Craig, the screw eye was just on the plate, I use those to hold certian baits while painting.  I make my own hook hangers out of 20ga stainless steel or brass wire and that is in all my baits from small to large.  

where do you get the wire to make the hook hangers

cool thanks! Ive been really interested in starting to carve these and keep finding mixed answers on how people hang the hooks. I hear alot of people say they use the eyes like what is sitting on your plate above the baits and ive heard some say they wire them in, although i cannot find any demonstrations on the web of how that is done. Im sure once i get a couple done it will come easier

I use two methods, thru wire harness and twist hangers.   I cut a lenght of wire 2 inches long and bend it around a small nail to a u shape, grab the ends with pliers and twist that puppy up(while still on the nail), cut to desired lenght and epoxy into a pre-drilled hole.  a thru wire harness is a bit more complicated.

Basscatcher, mixed answers is an understatement for sure. Each bait maker has their own methods for every phase of bait making and in all honesty most work very well. For bass baits I use twisted wire like Big M, its simple, strong, and gives you control of quality. If you want brass, copper or stainless steel you have that choice with handmade. With the exception of custom makers I do not know of any commercial through wire bass baits, the closest is the Lexan spine that Bomber uses in their balsa bait.

is there any websites out there that demonstrate some of these methods with pictures and everything? If not man i would think somebody will eventually lol
