I've seen all of the rods around here that everyone's making, and doing a great job at it by the way.  I've really getting interested in it, and i'm wanting to try to build one over spring break.  I've read a few books and watched the videos at mudhole.  Any tips on what components I should get.

It don't have to be pretty, but I want it to be functional

Max at about 50 or 60 $ on the whole thing.

Any thoughts?

Danke

Thanks, I never would of guessed that cabelas would have rodbuilding kits.

Danke

I'm with Bass-Brat on this, my first build 16 years ago was a kit, not from cabela's but a kit none the less. It will take you a few hours (experienced builders can take upwards of 30hrs. building a rod (plain nothing fancy), it will take longer for a new builder so be ready to spend some quality time building over your spring break.

As we say in rod building...

Well, I really don't have anything else to do on spring break. (Noting that I have to get braces on monday :'( I guess it's a small price to pay)  Anyway, ordered a kit from Cabelas yesterday

Just one of their cheaper, plain, graphite kits.

Specs:

SP 601B      6'      1      Moderate to Fast      L      2-8      1/16 - 3/8      .328      5.5

We'll see how it turns out.  I'll probably be posting a "Tell me what I did wrong" thread next week

hookemdown,

Just take it slow, read everything in the instructions, if you have question's ask them, and remember the only dumb question's are the one's you don't ask.

Good luck..
