Ok so here is my question. I am looking to start making my own football jigs to combat the high prices at the tackle shop. My biggest concern is when curing the paint and this might be a really dumb question because of common sense, BUT. When painting and curing do you do this with the weedguards in or not. Like I said common sense tells me that since you have to head the heads up to apply the paint, then bake to cure you wouldn't paint and cure with the weedguards in. I have no tackle making experience, just the videos I have watched. Come to think about it I don't recall ever seeing a jig painting video that ever contained the weedguards while they were being painted and cured. Maybe that is my answer. What are your thoughts on this?

Never mind everyone I got my answer. I feel really dumb right now.

Almost a total waste of time painting/coating jig heads. Makes no difference to the fish, just makes them look more appealing to the fisherman. I make 90% of my jig heads and never paint them.

I use to do Tungston bullets... In special colors just for fun...

Paint jig heads and then oven cure paint. I have found lower temperature for longer time (45 mins at 200 degrees) works best for a hard finish. Also, keeps paint from sagging on jig heads.

Once cured, epoxy or super glue weed guard into hole. Oven heat will damage weed guard.

Thanks the input you guys. Another thing has anyone ever heard of applying for a small business grant to get their tackle biz started? I know there are small business grants out there, but has anyone ever heard of or know anyone who actually has?
