Crankbait wood??

Featured Replies

I've made a few and wanted some of your opinions on what your favorite wood for making cranks is, like poppers and such?

Also where is a good place to get the wood?

Thanks in advance

balsa wood because it is the easiest to carve, sand, and weight.  www.balsausa.com

Ok I have a question about the balsa wood. Will the screw in eyelets hold up? I know they work fine in the pine wood I've made baits out of, but the balsa seems so weak. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have heard, that using an epoxy in the eye let holes, works really well for keeping them from, "stripping"!  I would used some clear, 2 part, 5 minute epoxy, thread the eye, then use the epoxy, and let it sit 24 hours.  It will then be solid.  But you will also lose the adjustability...  Maybe, epoxy, thread the eye, then remove the eye, let it dry a little, then thread again, then let it dry a little more, then repeat one more time...  Until the threads are harder.  ;)  Or you could epoxy in an aluminum sleeve...
