best way to bend spinnerbait wire on the fly?

Featured Replies

I dont have any special tools and not looking to invest in something at this time.....need a way to bend wire without breaking it....That is without a little blue bender or something like it. Broke wire on several using pliers...What I am doing wrong. I know there is a way to do it with regulat tools.....Dont tinker with them enough to need a Bender yet....Tips please?

Maybe try heating the area you want to bend, just slightly, with some kind of lighter, or even a small propane torch...  When I spend time bending any wire, I make sure to heat it, it gives it a somewhat gummy feeling to it, and it bends so nicely!

If you are just bending the tip around for the rear blade, get a smaller pair of pliers, and bend it over the jaws.

If you're bending straight wires to make a wireform, nail a few nails to a board, and bend around them.

Make a jig from a piece of wood and nails.  I start with one nail.  If I am making a R bend spinner bait I make a U shape around this nail.  I then place another nail where I want the leg of of the R and bend it.  To make the loop where the hook and the blade goes I use a pair of Round Nose Pliers.

Exactly what Kelley said.

I got my round-nose pliers in the craft section of Walmart in a pack that also had a pair of needle-nose and a pair of wire cutters.  The whole pack (3 pliers) was under $10.
