Painting Eyes

Featured Replies

I just started painting my first spinnerbaits.

I got the  base colors all done and have made one attempt on a bait to do the eyes. They didnt turn out so good.

I was curious about what you guys do to make the eyes on your spinnerbaits, or crankbaits.

Ive tried making templates in auto cad and cutting them out with a knife but that is not working so well. Ive also tried using a brush but cant ever make it look right.

any suggestions would be awsome.

If you are using a liquid paint try using the head of a nail, dip it in the paint, then press against the bait. To make the center of the eye use a smaller nail the same way. If you are using powder paint take a drinking straw and press it into the paint then slightly tap the straw against the bait, same way with the inside of the eye only with a smaller straw. Also have you thought of using stick on "3-d" eyes. If you are going to cover the bait in epoxy that is the best and easiest way to go and they will last a long time if you are using a good epoxy.

By the way how about some pics of those baits?

I spray painted it all except the eyes.

I was going for more function then look and it was my first time painting eyes so they look a little sloppy but i wanted them to be visible. I got the skirt pre made, but it was a bright white and I wanted to take some out so i held my red spray can away from the skirt and sprayed it and it looked pretty good.

Im working on a second one like it to see if i can do any better.
