Hangkai Motors

Featured Replies

I am new here so hope I am posting this correctly. I have a hangkai 2 h.p. Motor that I purchased earlier this year. It is a great running motor and pushed my canoe up and down our river Just fine even with the max weight in it. The question I have is about the round shear pin as I would call it, I can not fine any size for it. My first one broke and the extra bent so I can not get a good length on it. Does anyone know what size they are? I am down till I can find one. The river I fish is filled with rocks so I know I will break alot more so looking for extra stock. Thanks in advance!

I don't know what size sheer pin it uses but i will look into it.

Has that motor been satisfactory? I am considering that motor you have as well as a Hyfong 3.5 hp or a Hyfong 6.0 hp (both older pre 2006 Tohatsu based platforms)

The 2.0 you have, what to you think of the drive system? (I have minor reservations about the clutch mechanism.. It is WOT or nothing correct?

Thank you

Take the prop to a hardware store (a good mom and pop hardware store) and find one, if that doesnt work take the prop to an outboard dealer and test fit sheer pins to the prop (be prepared to get butt hurt)

Go with the softest metal sheer pin you can locate. You want it to sheer, thats a good thing.

I'm getting my motor in March, i'll do a review on it then.

(Hyfongs are still two strokers, nice and light... Basic old school two stroke no nonsense technology)

If it's brass, Graingers or a similar supply house should have a piece of metric rod you can cut your own. If it's steel, try to find a nail you that fits the hole and cut it. Nails are a very mild steel and work great. If you buy a steel rod, make sure it's a very mild steel. Do not try to use drill rod or any of the harder steels. If it's too mild it just bends or sheers too easily. If it's too hard, it will damage the LU before it sheers.

I think his lil' fella has a plastic prop though,.. So he might want to pay a little more for those nice smoothly rounded factory sheer pin egdes.

I have a guess of the size but not sure. Its a good running motor so I want to fix it before thaw. I have used it to push my friends 14 foot John boat first time out. Since then I have had it on my canoe on a small river. Besides hitting rocks and breaking shear pins its been great for me. The prop is a cast propeller and hasn't been torn up much. The only issue was the pull string part broke.
