Daiwa Procyon Spinning Rod?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a new rod and I'm in a tight budget and I've been looking at the 7 ft. Medium light for an all purpose finesse spinning rod and was wondering how it preformed?

Thanks for any feedback!...

Fwiw, I have the previous model in UL and am very impressed for the price. These can be had on fleabay for a good price. Can't speak for the new models.

I got a 7' ML-XF for a Christmas present a few years ago and while I normally use a little more expensive gear, I have to say that the rod was pretty good for what I use it for. I was going to send it back as the person who got it for me doesn't anything about fishing but to my surprise it actually works well for an "all purpose" type finesse rod. I use it on shaky heads and tubes and finesse jigs but I really like it for flukes. Sensitivity isn't great but it isn't horrible either, actually a little better than I would have thought on a rod at that price point but I think the extra fast action helps. If you like fishing hard and soft plastic jerkbaits with a spinning rod this will be a great rod as it is very good with those baits but it has enough feel for bottom contact baits like tubes, shaky heads, light T-rigs and finesse jigs and you can also drop shot with it but to me it would be for things like a 5/16oz to 3/8oz drop shot weight, it is a little too stiff for smaller drop shots, and it isn't that it can't handle the smaller baits as I normally throw 1/8oz stuff on my rod but drop shot fishing is better with a rod with a soft tip which the Procyon doesn't have. All in all if you're looking for a good all around finesse rod on a budget, this is pretty good and with a 5 year warranty it makes it a steal. I hope I answered your questions.
