Lews Laser Mg Vs Tournament Mg

Featured Replies

Anyone know the differences in these two models?  Thinking of buying a senko rig with the Laser MG and medium action rod, strictly for senkos and lightweight lures (plastics).  Thanks for all your help guys/

Ok, I was not going to respond to this thread till I saw where you are.  I moved out of Alec in April 2014.  So, I am familiar with that place, man I miss it!

Great people down there, and BEAUTIFUL women!!!

Go eat some Outlaws for me.

It looks like the MG, Tounry has two more bearings, heavier, but has an external lube port.  Both seem to have only mag braking and same style drag.  I just bought my first Lew's in Sept and LOVE it!  I would weight which options are most important to you and purchase accordingly.

Man, I miss Black Lake!!  Great place to fish.  Check Academy down there off the circle, they will run deals.

Good luck!

I'd say if you can afford the MG, go for it. I have one and it's a great reel.

Laser will deal with some punishment but that all composite frame will eventually wear down. Ive used mine for a year now and its still pretty solid but you can hear the frame tweaking as you put load on it (weeds, fish, casting). I put mine through hell its still kicking

The Aluminum frame and extra bearings is a nice upgrade and you will feel the difference. Feels solid and a good bit smoother.

Now each Ive used with weightless trick worms, and upto 1oz jigs.

If I had to offer a suggestion I would say get the SpeedSpool LFS for 100$

I definitly plan on it.

Both would be fine but pay the extra money for an aluminum frame. I own both a tourney and laser, both good, but that tourney is simply more solid in construction. My 2 Cents

Laser will flex.

Good starter reel, but you outgrow it fast

The tournament MG for me was a sleeper reel. Over time this reel really grew on me. I have had it for more than 3 years now, it has caught me plenty of nice bass, and its smoother now than when I first bought it. I would highly recommend this reel for a starter reel or for your main arsenal. It will not disappoint.

If you do some hunting, the Tournament Speed Spool is on sale/clearance for what the MG sells for. I bought one off of Academy for $120 that had a $30 mail in rebate. Lew's got my rebate back real quick.
