Rookie having problems with his airbrush

Featured Replies

Alright i have an airbrush city gd102 and took it out of the case to use it yesterday and it worked wonderfully.

I cleaned it up real well when i was done. When i went out to use it today it wouldnt hardly spray the paint at all.  I broke the whole thing down went through it all cleaned as much as i could and re assembled it correctly. The same thing happened. The only time i could get any paint to come out is when i moved the needle back and forth. So i tore it all down again and cleaned everything again and assembled it again and still the same thing happened......im new to this but getting frustrated already! lol.

Right now its all in pieces again i took all the o rings out and the brush is sitting in the sink soaking over night..

Has anybody got any other ideas of what else i could do? Im using Createx airbrush paints so i dont think thinning the paint is an issue? but maybe it is? I dont think so because the airbrush worked fine the first time i used it.

This stuff is cool and im trying not to get frustrated but when the equipment wont work its hard not to lol.  Atleast my paashe is still working fine but its a syphon feed. And hard to do fine lines with.

Any help is awesome!!

I've never used brand of brush but it sounds like paint is dried in the tip.   Does the needle feel like it's sticking when you back and forth?

You can take a small dia. piece of wire and scrape out the tip and see if you get any paint out.

How small is the tip dia. and what c-tex color where you trying to spray.  I have to thin some c-tex colors to shoot thru my Iwata and it has a .35mm tip.

the needle doesnt really feel like its sticking.

Ive tried black and white and a few others with no success. It has a .3mm tip. I shot all the same colors the first day i used it with no problem though. Ill go see what i can find for wire and clean the tip out.

Does air flow through it freely? Has the psi output changed?

will it shoot water with out any spitting?  I have trouble spraying black c-tex thru my brush sometimes, I have to bump up the air pressure a little.

What pressure are you spraying at right now?  You may have to bump up the pressure a little.  The last thing to try is thinning the paint and see if it will spray.

Ive been shooting between 30 and 40 psi and air is flowing through it freely.

It was shooting water and only did a little bit of spitting.

I was getting a good stream of water coming out. Ive sprayed paintthinner through as well and that wasnt having a problem either.

If i pull the lever back and let the air flow nothing will happen. But the second i let the lever slide back forward a little bit it spits out some paint then stops again.

single or double action brush?

That is a lot of air pressure, I spray at 18 psi and kick up to about 25 for the few c-tex colors I paint with.

After you dump the paint put some windex in the cup and see if the brush will spray the left over paint and windex.

If you pull the needle out a little will it spray the paint then?

Marty has you on the right track, you have paint inside the brush still, or the aircap isn't tight. If in doubt, like Marty said, always try spraying water.

One other thing to check is your air source, kinks in the hose, obstructions, etc

OK now i have to wait till wednesday to call the place and freak. I was re assembling the airbrush tonight and while attaching the nozzle it snapped off from the threads that stayed in the brush. I was able to get the threaded part out but im furious. I only used this brush once! and took care of it i thought cleaning it out. The rebuild kit is 16 bucks but this shouldnt have happened already. There was not alot of stress on the part. I guess you get what you pay for i guess ill try and save up the 200 bucks for a better gravity feed than an airbrush city one. The help line is closed till wednesday long enough for me to look at it everyday and let them have it lol

but to answer your questions big m

it is a double action

and the only time it would spray is if i pulled the needle out and then let it go back in a tiny bit then id get enough paint to make a small dot on the paper.

Nothing sounds right about that brush, I had a passche vl that gave me nothing but fits.  No matter what I did it would not spray right.

I got an Iwata Eclipse and I've never looked back.

www.dixieart.com, offers free shipping on orders over 65 bucks and has the cheapes prices on Iwata brushes.  Just save your money untill you can get a gravity feed eclipse and a hose.  You will be so much happier with an Iwata.

Take a look at WASCO for taxidermy paint, wildlife colors by Smith Paint.  I can spray 95% of their colors at 15-18psi, and you've seen how good the colors look in my pics.

I know exactly how ticked you are right now, I've been there.
