15 But Not 20 Crappies Today

Featured Replies

I found some open water today to wet the boat in.Little slow on the start, but it picked up nicely on the crappies.Mostly smallish with 3 or 4 about 9 " and one nice one over 13". WT 39 deg, clear, falling tide.

Lure was  a 1/32 oz Crappie Magnet  jig==wh/char Crappie Magnet plastic ,no float on 6 # line. I feel that those jig heads are significant insomuch  that they help the plastic remain horizontal.

I spotted 2 male cardinals  a few squirrels and more geese than I cared to count.

It was great to some fresh air and of course pullage too.

Iv`e been to the river twice after this report. Once I forgot to load the crappie box ,so I made do with the split tail on a Zoom Fluke about  an inch long and a drop shot worm end on another rig and did OK.

Next trip I tied two Crappie Mag jig heads with deer hair. One wh/char and another avacado/tiny bit of orange.

They loved both of them. Some time color matters a lot with crappies.I beat the crap out of one hole with the wh/char and did well.It dried up on that combo,so I went  with the avacado/or and caught  4 for 5 casts in the same place.20+ today, all  c & r.

I may have wasted money on the plastics because the deerhair jigs are working great.I`m not a crappie guru but getting out lately has been golden + its the only show in town now.

Excellent! What state are you fishing in? Here in Mass, we're locked up solid with ice. :(

Thanks,I`m right on the Md=De line. Most tidal rivers are still open, @ 39/40 deg,but it can

be brutal finding fish in winter.
