Sc Or Nc Smallmouth

Featured Replies

So my goal this spring or summer is to catch a Smallmouth Bass. I was wondering were at in NC or SC or good places to catch them and what you have caught them on. Willing to travel anywhere in NC or SC.

Try lake jocassee and fish 5ft-20ft of water.

Use 5 inch senkos weightless and fish them really slow.

8lb test fishing line.

I caught my first smallmouth last summer on the little Tennessee near Franklin, NC. The section by needmore road has some great spots for wading, and there some places near town that rent canoes and offer shuttles. Most of my fish have been caught with a 4" yum dinger in green pumpkin. Good luck !

exactly what i said in his other thread in the smallmouth section....  as a kid we camped on needmore ALL THE TIME.  float in intertubes, fish, cook out, camp .... that place is awesome.  you can catch a lot of fish, none are going to be monsters but you can catch a lot in that stretch of the river.  personally, the biggest i've seen from there was about 2.5 pounds, but my dad swears that as a teenager he caught one that he thinkgs was over 5!  everytime we pass this one eddy he points to it and reminds me that's where i caught that big'un.....

my only advice for a first timer is to take a friend with you.  i would be skeptical of making that float by myself the first time as you can get into a couple of hairy spots there in the river.

and yeah buddy on the small senko (pumpkin or green pumpkin for me) and then you HAVE TO HAVE a panther martin 1/8oz spinner black/yellow spots and gold blade.  those are the only baits needed to catch those brown guys in that stretch of the river.

the Tuckasegee and French Broad rivers have good smallmouth in them

The broad river is where I catch smallmouth in sc. I have also heard that lake Monticello is a good place for small mouth. But the most exciting recent news is a 3lbs smallmouth weighed in a tournament on lake murray!,,
